Welcome to Shelaskan Registered Kennel
We have retired from breeding, feel free to contact us and we would be happy to do a referral for you
We are a small kennel located 20 minutes north of Barrie Ontario in the town of Fesserton. We are members in good standing of The Canadian Kennel Club (Lifetime Member).. After the purchased of our first Alaskan Malamute in 1989 we grew as did the love for this wonderful breed. Over the years we have produced loving family companions as well as Canadian/American Champions. Alaskan Malamutes are not the dog for everyone, they are a strong willed and independent, like to dig up the yard, howl at the moon and shed a lot of fur. For your convenience we have added a number of information pages. AN INTRODUCTION to the Alaskan Malamute, FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS about the Alaskan Malamute QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF to help you decide if an Alaskan Malamute would be the best choice for your lifestyle and family. If you can't find the information that you are looking for, we would be happy to answer any questions or concerns that you may have. We do genetic screening on our breeding dogs to ensure our puppies get the best possible start. We breed for quality NOT quantity!! Therefore we only have a couple of litters a year. We do not breed to fill orders, or specific coat colour, we are usually looking to add something to our kennel when we select our breeding's. Over the years we have bred, greys, blacks, seals., whites, reds, and silvers. Everything that is included with our puppies is listed on the PUPPY INFORMATION PAGE. We welcome visits to our kennel by appointment at any time. If you would like a kennel visit we would be happy to set one up for you, please feel free to contact us.
There is no such thing as GIANT MALAMUTES, These are malamutes that are bred oversized and usually come with oversize health problems. Mals are fine the way they are naturally , bigger is not better in an Alaskan Malamute . The Alaskan Malamute, one of the oldest Arctic sled dogs, is a powerful and substantially built dog with a deep chest and strong, well-muscled body. Eyes are almond-shaped, brown, NEVER BLUE. There is a natural range in size in the breed. Males, 85 - 95 pounds, females, 65-75 pounds. The Malamute stands well over the pads, and this stance gives the appearance of much activity and a proud carriage, with head erect and eyes alert showing interest and curiosity. The head is broad, Ears are triangular and erect when alerted, muzzle is bulky.. not pointed or long, yet not stubby. The coat is thick with a coarse guard coat of sufficient length to protect a woolly undercoat. Malamutes are of various colors. Face markings are a distinguishing feature. These consist of a cap over the head, the face either all white or marked with a bar and/or mask. The tail is well furred, carried over the back, and has the appearance of a waving plume..... Contrary to some advertisements., RED malamutes and White Malamutes are not rare. WOOLIES or LONG COATED malamutes are incorrect coat gene, although they make wonderful and loving family pets they should not be used for breeding purposes.
